ICD-10/HIM Expert

Our client is looking for an ICD-10/HIM Expert for an 11-month contract on the West Coast and the East Coast. The ideal resource will act as the HIM resource to the project teams, must be willing to travel four days per week, understand health plan operations and the software development lifecycle, as well as possess strong project management and communication skills.
Requirements:
- A strong Health Information Management (HIM) and strong coding background with 8-10
years experience in the healthcare industry
- Familiarity with Health Plan operations and how the different functional domains (benefits, pricing, contracting, information management) operate
- Understanding of a Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and how the HIM skills can be applied throughout requirements, configuration, design and test phases is a plus
- Previous experience with coding and auditing, (preferably inpatient coding/auditing in an acute care setting), or
teaching
coding
classes
in an approved AHIMA accredited college program, and a knowledge base including ICD-9-CM converting to ICD-10 (both CM and PCS)
- AHIMA or other boot camp (HCPRO, AAPC, etc.) proof of certification/completion of course work
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or health related field preferred
- Current coding credentials/certifications from AHIMA (CCS, RHIA, RHIT preferred), and/or AAPC - Basic knowledge of the CMS GEMS
- Strong MS Office skills, specifically MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
Preferred knowledge or
Experience:
- Coding with billing rules for ICD-9-CM, HCPCS, and CPT
- Hospital revenue cycle experience, ideally charge capture and CDM
- Professional coding and billing experience
- Clinical knowledge
